Building World Beaters
Dubai's building boom has grabbed thousands of headlines throughout the world.
Grand projects such as 'The Palms' and 'The World' have captured the imaginations of property investors, architects and anyone with a pulse and TV set for the past few years and now, Dubai is shifting into top gear.
Not content with boasting the the world's first large scale man made islands, Dubai is playing host to a myriad of record breakers, including the highest apartment, its biggest mall and its most exciting theme park.
The construction boom is on such a scale to rival that of China, the world's most populous nation, whereas Dubai has a population which currently stands at 1.4 million, although this is set to rise inexorably.
Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has declared that, come 2010, the year Dubai's known oil reserves are predicted to run dry, the Emirate should hope to be attracting 15 million tourists per annum. And when some of these amazing projects near completion, it will certainly be difficult for millions of intrigued visitors to stay away.
Hydropolis
The World's First Underwater Hotel Designed by Joachim Hauser, the Hydropolis is scheduled to open at the end of 2007.
The development will cover 107,700 square metres and will be built at a depth of 20 metres, approximately 300 metres from the Jumeirah coastline. It will be structured into three elements: a land station, connecting tunnel and submarine complex.
Dubailand
The World's largest Theme Park This sprawling theme park will cover over three billion square feet and feature six different 'worlds', including the aptly named Dinosaur World, a Jurrasic Park-themed attraction, Aviation World, Arabian World, Motor Racing World and a Pharaohs' Theme Park as well as the 'Mall of Arabia' - billed as the biggest shopping centre mankind has ever seen.
Dubai Sports City
The World's Foremost Sporting Complex Set to be one of the star attractions within Dubailand, Dubai Sports City is the most ambitious sporting project to date, combining a truly futuristic living concept with modern, state of the art facilities, including dedicated cricket and hockey stadiums and exceptional sporting academies.
Manchester United FC is the first big soccer club to confirm their involvement, with other big-names expected to follow suit.
